At first Blue Jay had intended to sweep up her things as quickly as possible and retreat to her room on the top floor, but once she got over the jolt of the kitchen door slamming closed, she decided she could take the time to be organized about it. Besides, she needed time to brood on what had just happened and try to figure out where she had gone wrong. Fae had wanted Bria gone, Blue Jay was sure about that, but for no reason she could discern. There wasn't any apparent emergency, no urgent message Fae needed to share that needed privacy. As soon as Bria had been out the door, Fae had acted as though nothing had happened.

Blue Jay slid another tankard back into place and sat on her haunches, absently rubbing the side of her face with a still-filthy hand. She had seemed awfully fixated on the cookie, now that I think about it. Could she be jealous of Bria's baking?

But that didn't make any sense either. Blue Jay shook her head, putting the last of the cleaning supplies back in their basket. They had been getting baked goods from Turin Bakery since they had moved into Trollskull. They all knew the baker there was phenomenal, and it hadn't bothered Fae a titch. Not until she had been face to face with her. Blue Jay groaned and put her face into her hands. If only Fae were willing to talk to her and tell her what was wrong. She'd thought they'd built up enough trust for that.

The sound of Blue Jay's skillet crackling seeped through the walls, which was at least a little comforting. Fae couldn't be that angry at her if she wasn't forswearing the use of her gift. Then the crackling turned to loud pops and there was a shriek from Fae and a thump and Blue Jay was on her feet and rushing to the kitchen door, skidding to a stop right in front of it. Normally she would have burst right in, counting on the sound of the heavy door to alert Fae, but the scene they had just had made her reticent. She rapped twice on the door instead and called out, "Fae, are you alright? Do you need help?"

Fae hunched over, one hand on the table, the other on her hip. She groaned softly as she rubbed the tender area where her hipbone protruded out.

'I wanna crawl back inta' a hole an'die..' she thought, absently, for only the briefest moment. Most working thoughts were focused on keeping her from just hunching over into a ball. "F-fine jus'?"

'What? Idiot bein' an idiot?'

Its not like she didn't know what pearl ash was. And it wasn't as if she didn't know she had to be careful what she thought of when she was plucking things from her pouch. Mrs. Crenshaw had gotten it in a trade and had worked literal magic with it. Fae was just an amateur by comparison.

"Shits!" she gasped, sound finally rushing back into her senses and reminding her of the bubbling over concoction on the stove. Thankfully nothing in the mix was flammable, but the liquids had steamed over, and were no solidifying around the copper pot, filling the kitchen with a distinctive smell of burning lemon. "Ohnononononono" she whined as she took the handle, wincing as she forgot to wrap it in anything, the heat just starting to really warm up the whole length of the grip enough to hurt. There was the distinctive sound of Fae trying to bit back a mewl of pain as she lifted the whole thing and started hustling. "Shitshitshitshitshitshit" her voice carried as she rushed the pot over to a basin of water and dropped it in, causing steam to billow out and hiss throughout the kitchen.

Then she fell backward, wincing only a little as she put pressure on the pinkening skin of her palm.

Blue Jay did not, on the whole, find the noises from the kitchen reassuring.

The burning smell didn't help matters either.

"Fae, I'm coming in," she called. And then, because she knew there were things Fae did not want her to see, added, "I'm going to count to five first." Blue Jay forced herself to take five deep breaths so that she wouldn't rush through the count, using the time to clean her hands with a bit of distilled alcohol and a mostly-unsoiled rag. One...two—don't rush...three—oh that sounds bad...four...and...

"Five!" Blue Jay shoved open the door to the kitchen with her shoulder and rushed in to find Fae standing over a water basin that was hissing and putting off prodigious amounts of steam. She's going to warp that skillet treating it like that, was the absent thought that came to her mind before she noticed that Fae was favoring one of her hands.

"Did you burn yourself? Let me see." She bustled over, retrieving a jar of ointment from one of her pouches. Fae wasn't the only one for whom accidental burns were an occupational hazard.
